I love fashion. I love clothes and shoes, and all the things that go along with it, but the problem is, I'm not very good at it. One of the biggest obstacles I run into with fashion is trying to pack for a trip. If you're like me, you know how frustrating it can be when you pack the wrong stuff, and I don't mean just the obvious stuff like packing a puffer coat when you're headed to the Caribbean, but packing items that fit in with the style of the location you're visiting. For example: I recently went to Baltimore, MD for a long weekend. I had never been to Baltimore and didn't know much about it other than the fact that it was a city, and because it is a big city, I figured we would cab it everywhere and I could wear all the heels. Why so excited to wear heels you ask? Well, let me give you a little back ground info. I live in Maine. The shoe of choice here is a Bean Boot. Seriously, I see people wear them in the Summer. I live right outside of Portland which is known for it's historical charm, lobster, and hipster hotspots (I say hipster because you can't enter any restaurant or bar without spotting a few men with long beards, pompadour hairstyles, and skinny jeans rolled up at the cuffs). There's a popular section of town by the water called the Old Port which contains many streets paved with cobblestones. They are charming, but can be dangerous to walk on, so heels are not worth it (believe me, I have the scars on my knees to prove it). Plus, Portland is a "walk around town," meaning there are plenty of places to explore and everything is walking distance, so heels are not the shoe of choice. So back to Baltimore. I packed dresses and heels. You know what I found out AFTER I got there? Baltimore has it's own Old Port called Fell's Point, which has even MORE cobblestone streets. I still have the blisters on my feet from trying to navigate the streets with my stilettos, and walking over 8 blocks to get from point A to point B. I was also wearing a dress that made me look like I was heading to a funeral at 10PM. I looked ridiculous when everyone else was wearing easy to walk in, non-blistering shoes, along with jeans and casual tops. The worst part was, I ONLY packed dresses and heels. And they weren't even stylish dresses and heels, not by Baltimore standards anyway. I'm so bad at this.
This is why I came up with the idea of locals helping travelers when it comes to deciding what to wear for your next trip. I would love to know the fashion trends of different locations before heading there, it would make things so much easier. Plus, I can pack much less stuff (or have more room for the good stuff hehe) because I won't have to over pack thinking, "I'll bring my puffer coat and a sundress, just in case!"
Help me help you! By tagging your posts to share, I'll be able to compile them into categories by city on this site and make it easy to navigate the local fashion trends! Stay tuned!
HOW IT WORKS!
